miami townhomes DishNetwork HD channels?

I have had a HDTV for the past 6 months. I am sick of AT&T Broadband's service and now thinking of getting connected with DishNetwork. I went to their web site, and the only channels I could find that broadcast in HD is HBO and Showtime. Is that it? There are a few local channels in South Miami that broadcast in HD, but an over-the-air-antenna will not work well in my location. I thought DishNetwork had more than 2 HD channels, and also had a CBS or NBC channel in HD as well. I wish their web site gave more help on this topic. -SamE.

Yep, their website is woefully behind the times. DISH has, as you mentioned, HBO and Showtime, and it also has a PPV channel, a demo channel (not the best material, imho) and it has CBS. You can get CBS if you are in an O&O area (Owned and Operated by CBS, not a franchise). I don't know if Miami is CBS O&O or not. Another option is getting a waiver from your locals to receive distant locals and thereby obtain CBS HD that way. And, may I ask, what is the situation with your antenna? If you are within, say, 20 miles, you should be able to pick up a rather good signal, considering Florida has rather flat topology. Later...

all that's in HD. It's that kind of lacking since you also need a separate dish to point at 61.5o and the expensive 6000 model decoder? I'm in North Broward, so that's about 40 miles from Miami. It is also a townhouse as well. They only approve Dishes on the roof, not antennas. A neighbor had a OTA and the Miami channels did not come in clear. I thought that since CBS, NBC, and FOX are broadcast in HD out of Miami, that maybe they would also be in HD with DishNetwrok in their local channel package. How can I find out is my local Miami CBS is Owned&Operated? -SamE Hey, Sam. I found this: http://web-star.com/hdtv/Echocbsnewsrelease.html Looks like Miami is CBS O&O so you should be able to get CBS-HD thru DISH. And, according to http://www.fcc.gov/csb/facts/otard.html : Q: If I live in a condominium, cooperative, or other type of residence where certain areas have been designated as common, do these rules apply to me? A: The rules apply to residents of these types of buildings, but the rules do not permit you to install an antenna on a common area, such as a walkway, hallway, community garden, exterior wall or the roof. However, you may install the antenna wholly within a balcony, deck, patio, or other area where you have exclusive use. Drilling through an exterior wall, e.g. to run the cable from the patio into the unit, is generally not within the protection of the rule because the exterior wall is generally a common element. You may wish to check with your retailer or installer for advice on how to install the antenna without drilling a hole. Alternatively, your landlord or association may grant permission for you to drill such a hole. The Commission's rules generally do not cover installations if you drill through a common element So, if you have a balcony or patio, you *can* install an antenna, possibly even on a mast so as to reach sufficient height to obtain a signal. Roof-mounted antennae in apartments, condos, townhomes, etc. are not covered by the ruling. HTH! Later... Jerry

When you call DISH (1-800-333-3474) be sure to get to the Tech Support dept and ask for someone who can handle HDTV requests. That will save you some trouble! Later... Jerry

CBS HD is available if you qualify.... ie you are in an area which is served by a CBS affiliate owned and operated by CBS. Cari www.coribright.com
